Type Locality and Naming

Northeast Hubei border to Henan. The Huangmailing Fm was named by the Northeastern Hubei Party of Geology, Hubei Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1986. The type section is in Huangmailing of Dawu County, Hubei Province. Lowermost formation in (1 of 4) in Hong'an Gr.

Synonym: (黄麦岭组)


Lithology and Thickness

In the type section, the formation is composed of quartz schist, albite-hornblende schist, muscovite-albite gneiss, microcline-albite leptite, leuco-leptite, Mn-bearing marble, quartzite, graphite schist, phosphatic rock and Mn ore. In general, the phosphate is developed in lower part, and the Mn ore and heavy Rare Earth ore are contained in upper part. The thickness varies from 338 to 644 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation rests unconformably over the Dabieshan Gr or the Tongbaishan Gr

Upper contact

The top is conformably covered by the Tiantaishan Fm

Regional extent

Northeast Hubei border to Henan. The formation is distributed in Dawu, Yingshan, Macheng, Guangshui, on the south slope of Tongbai Mt. and Dabe Mt.

Fossils

The microplants occurring in graphite schist are Trematosphaeridium, Lignum, Asperatopsophosphaera. Polyporata, etc.
